Confessions of a high-priced call girl was written by Dimitra Ekmektsis and Patricia Lieb.
Born and raised near Stuttgart, Germany, Dimitra spent the early 1990’s in New York City, working as an escort. For two years, screenwriter Aaron Sorkin was her top client. Sorkin later created the successful television drama The West Wing, and though he confessed to Dimitra that he wrote the call girl character because of her, he never officially acknowledged her or gave her credit.
During her youth in Germany, Dimitra came to appreciate the solace and stimulation of creative endeavors. In a magazine she saw Helmut Newton’s work, and instantly took up photography. At 12- years-old she read Xaviera Hollander’s bestseller The Happy Hooker and vowed to go to New York and follow in her footsteps. While Dimitra worked mostly as a call girl, and later as a stripper, she is also a photographer and even had a burgeoning career as a music producer.
In 2002, the New York Daily News and Star magazine first broke the story of Dimitra’s involvement with Aaron Sorkin and The West Wing. In a discussion with Daily News columnist George Rush, she talked about her desire to write about the inner workings of high-priced call girl life; and he said, “I can’t wait to read it.” That’s how Dimitra became a writer.
It was only natural, having been immersed in art and literature all her life.
Another great artist entered the picture – William Richert(screenwriter of The Happy Hooker and writer/director of Winter Kills and A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon). In the 1990’s Richert found that his screenplay, The President Elopes, had been plagiarized by Aaron Sorkin and re-written as The American President. The relationship between Xaviera Hollander, Aaron Sorkin and William Richert became obvious and benefited Dimitra’s writing efforts. Then came the support of Patricia Lieb.
Dimitra approached Patricia about coming in as a co-writer and editor.
Combined with Patricia’s support, this project has been a thing of beauty. She has worked with Dimitra every step of the way, and has given her time and talent selflessly.
Patricia has quietly lived and worked in Florida for nearly 20 years, primarily in the literary community.
She began her writing career in 1976, at the Bourbonnais Herald in Bourbonnais, Illinois. Prior to moving to Florida in 1987 she also wrote features for the Daily Journal in Kankakee, Illinois, and in the early 1980’s, she was the co-author and co-publisher of the literary magazine Pteranodon and the Pteranodon Chapbook Series.
Her career as a journalist includes working 10 years as a reporter and feature writer for the Suncoast News in New Port Ritchey, Florida. While covering the city of Dunedin, she was presented awards from the City Commission on two occasions: “In Recognition and Appreciation of Her Outstanding Dedication to Reliable and Impartial News Coverage” -1996, and for “Reliable Reporting of Local Government News 1991 – 1999.
In 2000 she received from the Florida Press Association, an award for “In-depth Reporting” for a three-part gambling series she wrote with the newspaper’s feature editor.
Her true crime book of 17 murder stories, titled Murders In The Swampland was published in 2000. Her novel, Across Red River to her Mysterious Heritage, also was published in 2003. Her new novel, Bridged By Love, and Breath Unleashed, a collection of poetry, will be published in fall-winter 2006.
That isn’t the end of it, though. Much more is anticipated from Patricia’s and Dimitra’s collaboration after Confessions of a high-priced call girl.
